In the December issue of CQ Magazine, I saw a picture of the TalkSafe Box and after reading the article I contacted RPF Communications to get more info on the product. Gail Osborne in Charge of Sales & Marketing returned my e-mail. After reading what Gail had to say about the TalkSafe I decided to purchase one. This was the best investment that I could have ever made in the Amateur Radio World.
Once I received the TalkSafe I hooked it up to my Mobile Unit to try it out in the driveway and the reception was fantastic. So asking my wife to take me for a short ride to try the Box on the road was amazing feeling. Being able to hold a drink and move around hands free and still being in contact with my ham friends was the greatest. Just think - driving down the road with both hands on the wheel and not having to hold a mic and yet still being able to make and receive calls. So returning home from the ride I took my TalkSafe one step further and brought it into the house where I hooked it up to my Base Station knowing that I had up to 35 feet to move in. So now I can move around the house instead of constantly sitting in front of my rigs. This has been fantastic for me as I am disabled with degenerative disc disease and in a wheel chair 50% of the time and not able to move very fast, but now with the TalkSafe Box I don't have to move at all to catch calls, I can continue e-mailing friends on my computer and still communicate on the radio at the same time. This device has some great and very useful features too.
You might be asking how the quality of the TalkSafe Audio is and all I can tell you is that it is amazing, but I understand from RPF that it does depend on the quality of the headset you purchase to go along with the Box. I use the Alpha JawBone with Anti Noise Shield, which has 5 levels for greater performance in received calls. All I know is that everyone that gets this product will truly enjoy hamming a great deal more either being mobile or on the base station, just like the experience I have had with my TalkSafe for the past 3 months now.
I know that I am only one person but this TalkSafe Box is an amazing product and I recommend this unit to all Hams and especially to Hams with any kind of disability.
By the way, one little tip that Gail gave me, is that HAMS on our side of the pond [USA] should not place orders through the RPF website as you will pay more due to the UK sales tax being included. Instead simply send an e-mail to Gail with all the relevant details about your rigs; manufacturer and model number, address and contact phone number and she will do the rest. I have to say that the service I received from Gail at RPF was superb - she has answered all my questions and has given amazing aftersales service as well.
